Creating an Innovation Framework for Engagement

for OCAD University, Masters research

In this in-depth innovation research project, I investigated the question of “How might we better empower and enable civic participation, especially at the local level?”

Through expert interviews and trans-disciplinatry desk research on theory and practice, I surfaced both barriers and benefits to authentic engagement.  A fresh way of thinking about engagement emerged—centred on four foundational pillars, as well as a selection of secondary pillars. I proposed the beginnings of a toolkit, including an “Engagement Readiness Canvas”.

My hope is that this might help residents and leaders to together achieve better futures and strengthen our communities in the process.
